Adaptive Learning and Enterprise Personalization – Dr. Aasman’s Perspective

As enterprises look to AI agents and language models to deliver more personalized experiences, technology is only part of the equation. The real challenge is understanding the context behind what a user needs, why they need it, and how that information should be delivered.

Dr. Jans Aasman, CEO, Franz Inc., discusses this challenge in KMWorld’s new article, “Adaptive Learning and Personalization Within the Enterprise.”

“Do you understand the user, and why that person really needs this content, especially if you have a massive overflow of information? And, how do you represent what a user wants?”

Jans explains that AI, knowledge graphs, vector search, and related technologies provide important infrastructure for personalization—but understanding users and their context is equally critical to making these systems effective.

Personalization requires more than understanding the content itself. It also requires understanding the people involved and the context surrounding the information exchange. As Jans explained:

“In order to send the right information to the right person, you have to a) understand the document, b) understand the receiver, and you even have to c) understand the sender, who might have a particular motive to send something to someone.”

That broader view of context becomes even more important as enterprises move toward agentic AI. Rather than requiring users to constantly search for relevant information, intelligent agents can help identify and deliver what matters automatically. Jans described the opportunity this way:

“You could have agents from these various databases that understand which analyst is actually interested in this subject; let’s just send his agents this information. He doesn’t have to look for it; we’ll just give it straight to the agent, so it’ll deal with it.”
